Most of the fishing takes
place in the protected waters of Sitkalidak Straits and the deep bays that make
up Kodiak Island.
Salmon fishing is done by trolling.
Halibut, rockfish and
lingcod is done by bottom jigging in depths from 60 feet to 300 feet.
King Salmon and Halibut fishing
starts May 15th and the king salmon fishing slows down by the
first week of July.
July 1st Ling Cod season opens. Halibut fishing is still strong and
there are a few kings still around.
The first week of August our local Coho's,
12-18lbs, show up and peak around the end of the month. Halibut and Ling cod
are still readily available.
